The Skin
Wrinkles are damaged skin that has begun to thin with age and the collagen fibers break down and cause small indentations on the surface of the skin. The skin also has specialized macrophage cells (immune cells) called “Langerhans” cells, these cells help remove dead skin cells from the surface of skin and promote cell renewal. They also help protect against skin damage from UV rays, chemicals, makeup, cleansers and the chlorine in water. Studies have shown that Beta Glucan does indeed penetrate the skin to reach the Langerhans Cells and results were noticeable after 8 weeks of treatment. [1]
- Stimulates Collagen Synthesis and Cellular Proliferation
- Promotes Wound Healing
- Conditions and Soothes Damaged Skin
- Helps Reduce the Signs of Aging & Refresh Tired Skin
- Acts as Anti-inflammatory Agent
- Helps Repair Damage from Photo-aging - the Sun
Aging slows the Langerhans cells ability to clear the skin of debris and maintain attractive, line-free skin. Eventually, Langerhans cells become unable to identify cross-linked tissue. This causes fine lines and wrinkles. They soon fail to recognize, as debris, a premature pigmentation. The Langerhans cells, while seeking to correct these defects to produce clear, blemish free skin, becomes less and less able to fulfill its mission. This is a primary cause of premature aging of the skin.
A clinical study of 150 women with topical applications of Beta Glucan from yeast cell wall in various preparations resulted in a 27% improvement in hydration of the skin, a 56% improvement in facial wrinkles, and a 29% improvement in skin elasticity & firmness within an eight week period.
Beta Glucan from yeast cell wall was also included in a protocol using alpha hydroxy-acid. The irritation caused by alpha-hydroxy-acid was reduced significantly. Beta Glucan from yeast cell wall also serves to protect the skin from harmful ultraviolet radiation, with even greater protection when Beta Glucan from yeast cell is combined with the use of the sunscreen.
The healing of decubitis ulcers [bed sores], which are common in the elderly and are extremely difficult to treat, is rapidly accelerated with topical applications of Beta Glucan.
Budget skin-treatment with Beta Glucan:
Who needs fancy creams? Beta Glucan right from the capsule works just the same as when combined with expensive ingredients. Skin needs to be exfoliated before application to remove as many barriers between the Glucan and the Langerhans cells as possible. A quick wipe down with hydrogen peroxide is easy and effective to remove the dead cells and oils, leaving a clear path for Glucan absorption. Our preferred mixture is ½ capsule of Beta Glucan 1,3D 100mg with about ¼ teaspoon of Aloe Vera. Mix the Glucan and Aloe, then use your fingers to pat gently onto the skin of the face.
